The book gave me a mere glimpse into the lives of SRA children and adults. But it is with this very limited understanding that I now have an awareness of the struggle these children/adults have/will endure to find acceptance of their horrific abuse and competent treatment. I was quite astonished to find, within this book, that public opinion was that SRA did not exist. That society was just now in acceptance of abuse of children and was not willing to accept that horrors dealing with SRA could be inflicted on children. It is apparent why survivors of this abuse feel that they have no one to turn to.

It also makes you aware, with limited information, the frame of mind in regard to emotional attachment to a biological or adopted child. My depth of understanding was unable to fathom the cruelty and disregard these adults (they do not warrant the titles Mothers and Fathers) had/have for these children. There is not much in way of an explanation but more of a statement of fact.

This books primary function is to aid the Therapist in the care and treatment of the SRA survivor. It stresses that understanding, kindness, and most of all, belief in what the patient is saying is imperative in the continued survival and healing of body and soul.
