Review OfRepressed Memories: A journey to recover from sexual abuse.by Renee FredricksonThis is a book for people who think that they might have some issues that they want to explore, and have the ability to do some of it on their own. This book has lots of warnings in it, as it should, for it treads on dangerous territory. The author encourages people to do some therapy work, that in my opinion should not be done without a therapist. There in I found my dilemma with this book. But my concerns did not end there. The author talked about directed memory work, and suggestions in the use of hypnosis. As a hypnotherapist and someone who is a good hypnotic candidate, I was deeply disturbed by these ideas in her book. Persons doing this type of work are vulnerable enough, without a therapist adding to the mix. Her suggestions are the very fodder that the false memory people look for. I found this to be something that permeated the book. Though it was written with all good intention I am sure, it is a worrisome book to us. I would not suggest this book to anyone who was not working with a highly trained therapist. And even then this book left me with more concerns than it did with any new helps along the way of healing. In the end, I have to give this one a thumbs down. Vanessa rated 1 thumb down.
