Review Of

My Mom Is Different

Having Dissociative Identity Disorders is tough. Being dissociative and raising children is even tougher. The author does a great job tackling a difficult subject. She uses words that young children can understand, and that older children are not offended by. She does not patronize the children, or paint an unreal picture. I read this book with my preteen son, and he enjoyed it. We went back and read it together on two occasions that he seemed to need to know more. My daughter who is 6 I have not read the book with. I would read the book with a child this young if I was faced with hospitalization due this disorder. Otherwise, I believe it best to wait until the children are a little older and ready to have words to explain what they know from their experiences.

After reading the book with my son, he gave me a big hug and said you might be different mom, but you are the best mom a kid could ever have. Definitely a two thumbs up book!
