Review OfMultiple Personality Disorder from the Inside Out by Barry M. Cohen, Esther Giller, and Lynn W.This book is a must read for anyone who has some form of dissociative Identity Disorder. The authors have gathered together many essays, poems, and general writings by many differnt persons with the disorder. It should be read for no other reason than for finding out that you are not alone. Throughout the book they present various opinions and ideas on the same topic, be it diagnosis, therapy, or unification. They bring to their book the idea that none of us should try to be a round peg in a square hole, we should be who we are. The various opinions cover a lot of area. There were times I read what someone said and found myself nodding my head mumbling yes, yes, thats exactly how I feel. There were other times I was mumbling no, no, thats not me. This presentation of various opinions lends itself to allowing the reader to take what they need and leave what they don't need.
It would also be a great book for therapist to read. It presents so
many facets from so many dissociative persons, that a professional
reading it would have to come away with new knowledge. One of my
favorite lines is this: "PAIN! Thats what I wish I knew about, my
therapist knew about, and my family and friends knew about when I was
diagnosised with MPD. And yet, I do not think that there is any way any
of us could have been prepared for the horror involved in dealing with
this disorder." When I read those words, and the many that followed in
a chapter called, Pain, I knew that I had found a book written by other
persons who were feeling what I was feeling, and knew what I was going
through. rated 2 thumbs up. Back to Book List
