Review OfBroken Child by Marcia Cameron"For every deeply mentally disturbed person who finds who finds the road to recovery, there is a love story behind the healing." So writes Marcia Cameron in her book, Broken Child. The book is graphic at times, and takes the reader through much of the world of the dissciative person. Marcia writes this book from her own life experiences. Life experiences that are abusive, and thus force her to cope the only way possible for a small child. She created multiple personalities.
Unlike some books that have been written by persons with dissociative
disorders, Marcia has tackled explaining to people what it is like to
reach a point in her life where she must seek help, and what the
ensueing relationship with those helping people is. Discussing
patient/doctor relationships is not a common theme in literature. Some
authors have written about horrible abusive experiences with
therapists. Marcia opens the door for therapists and clients alike to
view what that relationship can be, and the end results of that work.
The book can be very triggering at times, and victims who are not in
therapy, or not doing well in their own life should not read this book.
It is a must read for any therapist with a dissociative client to
treat. rated 1 thumb up. Back to Book List
